Few things light up my soul more than the performing arts. So when I can find beautifully curated shows produced and performed by local talent, I want to let our readers know about it so you can be moved to your core like I was.
I had the honor of sitting in on the first dress rehearsal for Persephone’s Garden, a spectacular cirque production that takes you into a world of purity and seduction, pain and pleasure, confusion and clarity. When asked about the inspiration for the production, Miami native Stephanie Chisholm, said it was rooted in her own observation of life, "In the past few years, my own exploration into Tantric healing and personal development has expanded my understanding of my shadows, my stories, my childhood, and how the trials I’ve faced in my life have shaped me into the person I am today."
Persephone’s Garden brings the audience through an acrobatic adventure filled with innocence, love, turmoil, challenges, and triumphs, diving deep into the realm of emotions. It's evident that Stephanie has poured her heart and global experience as an aerialist into this production.
With my own experience as a performer and studio owner, I know first hand that putting quality productions like this together takes more than just imagination. "The greatest challenge by far has been time and resources. As this production is self produced, I’ve had very limited rehearsal time with the artists," Stephanie shared when asked about the challenges in bringing Persephone's Garden to life. "That being said, I’m very happy with what we are able to accomplish in a short amount of time," she finished.
The setting is intimate, the soundtrack is deep and one my favorite elements was the inclusion of the unique and angelic voice of singer, songwriter Emilia Garth threading together Stephanie's genius production. The rest of the supremely talented cast includes Megan Stockman, Snö Bunta, Maya Kramer, Oscar David Sanhueza Almonacid, Joe St Louis, and the creator herself. This show really is a work of the heart and you can feel it in each note, movement and smile from the performers.
Persephone’s Garden is only up for two nights, November 23rd and 24th at the Miami Circus Arts Center (LADD Foundation) located at 1395 NW 22nd St, Miami, FL 33142. You can purchase tickets clicking here.
